Rh Haemolytic Disease of the Newborn, 1960-1961.

چکیده
Before 1941, erythroblastosis foetalis was treated at Birmingham Maternity Hospital by repeated intramuscular injections of fresh blood (Braid, 1939). During the next decade infants with Rh haemolytic disease of the newborn were given repeated intravenous transfusions of Rh negative blood. The exchange transfusion was not introduced until 1950. The first three years' experience (1950-53) with this new technique was reviewed by Davies, Gerrard, Hatchuel and Howarth in 1953. Two years' experience of Rh haemolytic disease at the same hospital a decade later forms the subject of this paper.

Location of the adventitious factors in haemolytic disease of the newborn.
It is by now well established that the frequencies of ABO mating types among parents of children with Rh haemolytic disease of the newborn are not the same as in the general population. There is a reduced frequency of matings in which the mother has antibodies to ABO-antigens possessed by her husband. It is possible that incompatible foetal blood escaping into the mother's circulation is so rap...
متن کاملIncidence of haemolytic disease of the newborn in the offspring of sisters.
Haemolytic disease of the newborn most commonly occurs when an Rh-negative mother has been sensitized to the D antigen, either from an Rh-positive foetus during pregnancy, or by an injection or transfusion of blood. Sensitization, however, occurs much less commonly than is theoretically possible; and Wiener (1946) has suggested that the ability of an individual to become sensitized is condition...
متن کاملHaemolytic Disease of the Newborn*
Since the discovery of the Rh blood groups (Landsteiner and Weiner, 1940) many articles on the subject of haemolytic disease of the newborn have been written. Gilmour (1944) in this country and Potter (1944; 1946) in America have presented authoritative accounts of the pathology of haemolytic disease, but, as the former points out, this aspect of the condition has received far less attention th...
متن کاملAnti-E in pregnancy.
Since the introduction of anti-Rhesus (Rh) D prophylaxis for RhD-negative women, other Rh and non-Rh red cell alloantibodies have become relatively more important and are now responsible for the greater proportion of haemolytic disease of the newborn. Anti-C and anti-E are the most commonly implicated non-D Rh antibodies in the pathogenesis of haemolytic disease of the newborn'. In 1977 Peppere...
متن کاملHaemolytic disease of the newborn due to multiple maternal antibodies
Haemolytic disease of the foetus and newborn (HDFN) is a condition in which the lifespan of an infant’s red blood cells (RBCs) is shortened by the action of specific maternal immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody. Rhesus (Rh)D haemolytic disease of the newborn is a prototype of maternal isoimmunization and foetal haemolytic disease. Although rare, the other blood group antigens capable of causing all...
